An Adoption Journey Begins!
It has been a long time coming for this day…
For me, it was during the time spent living in Kyrgyzstan, interacting almost daily with refugees living on the street. And while we’ve talked about it, even before we were married, it has always been the illusive ‘one day’. And with great anticipation and excitement, our one day, is finally here!
Next week we are hoping to send off our initial application to begin the process of bringing an orphan into our family forever!! Its so crazy how it feels as though we’ve found out we were pregnant….
We are still praying about the where. Although we are certain on international. We are open to the world and just want God to lead us to wherever our daughter or son (or both) is waiting! At this point, we are looking into programs in India, China & Ethiopia.
Although we have walked through 3 miscarriages following our second daughter’s birth, this is not our plan B. In fact, there is no medical reason why we can’t have more children by birth. Our heart’s desire is to adopt…and we believe this has been his plan all along! It is purposeful. It is desired!
We have been pouring over websites, agencies, requirements, and getting advice from any and all parents who have gone before us in this process. Would you please pray for us as we make big decisions regarding agency, country & child(ren)?! And we have already begun the process of praying and asking God to open doors and give us ideas to do whatever we can to raise funds to help with the costs. Currently in the beginning phases are a freelance photography side job for me & the beginnings of another music project written towards adoption & missions.
Thank you so much for the valuable role you play in being apart of this with us! Both in investing prayers into this journey (potentially a long one) and also in loving this child with us! As a follower of Christ, this is without a doubt one of our clearest calls~
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27 (ESV)
Adoption is his heart. His design. And I am so grateful it is. For this is the gospel message that has ransomed me, and called me his own.
“In love, he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” Ephesians 1:5-10 (ESV)
We know the road ahead will have its bumps and quite possibly times when we’re not sure we can carry on. We know it will mean much sacrifice. In our finances, in our living, in our time. And in those moments, I hope I remember the price he paid to adopt me. In his very coming down, in human form, bearing my sin, enduring death on a cross….. and perspective is regained and endurance is strengthened.
Because we are not our own…but for his glory.
